Photos: New Dunas Course opened this summer by David McLay Kidd at Terras da Comporta, Portugal

Mar, 2023

David McLay Kidd designed the Dunas Course at Terras da Comporta. Tee times are available starting in June 1.

In 2010, Kidd opened the first course in mainland Europe near the Atlantic Ocean. The development was delayed by a decade due to the change of ownership. Vanguard Properties purchased Terras da Comporta from Terras da Comporta for $99 million in 2019. A second course, to be called Torre, will also be planned by the development. It will be designed by Sergio Garcia and Jose Maria Olazabal.

Kidd, a Scottish architect who is best known for designing the original course at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon and other highly-regarded layouts around world, restarted construction of the par-71 Dunas Course which measures 7,168 yards in 2019, just south of Lisbon.

Rodrigo Ulrich (director of golf at Terras da Comporta) stated that “What David McLay Kidd was able to construct here is exceptional” in a press release announcing its planned opening. We are thrilled about the launch and can’t wait for the golfers to experience the extraordinary on-and off-course experience at Terras da Comporta starting this summer.

Below are several photos showing the new layout.
