The 44th Ryder Cup is here, and 12 of America’s best golfers will be competing against 12 of Europe’s best to win the trophy.
The bi-annual matches between the U.S.A. and Europe will officially start on Friday at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, Rome, Italy.
In 1927, a team of Americans took on a Great Britain group in the first ever staging of this event. In 1973, the team expanded to include Irish golfers. In 1979 it was expanded to include golfers from all over Europe.
Since 1993, the U.S. is yet to win the Ryder Cup outside of its home country. See some of the best images from the competition.
