Photos: Renovations bring shine to Cape Club in Palm City (formerly Fox Club Florida).

Feb, 2023

The Cape Club of Palm City is located approximately 90 minutes north of Fort Lauderdale, depending on traffic. It was purchased by an ownership group headed by Michael Intoccia (Massachusetts real estate developer). Since then, the private facility has been working hard on the property formerly known Fox Club Florida.

The Cape Club of Palm City offers a bargain in a South Florida market that sees private clubs charge entry fees of up to $6,000. Although it is not a lot of money for every player, it’s still a great deal for a solid course in a major market where the ownership has made commitments to improving playing conditions and member facilities.

Golfers who used the Fox Club Florida daily-fee Fox Club Florida for five months might struggle to remember some of the holes after the renovations and the grow-in. Overgrown brush and other native vegetation were removed from the fairway and around several holes. Turf was replaced, greens were recontoured and resurfaced, bunkers were renovated, and range was renovated. The layout is located at the northern border of Martin County and offers a more enjoyable Florida golf experience. It features slightly larger corridors that have water in play on nearly every hole.

The course at the Cape Club of Palm City was originally designed by Roy Case in 1989. It has been sold and bought many times. Eoghan O’Connell and Darren Clarke redesigned it in 2004. This was the most recent work done in-house.

The new owners also plan to build cabins on the 9th hole, which was previously No. Before the renovation, 18 was flipped to the nines. The clubhouse, as well as all other facilities, have been given significant improvements.

The Cape Club Collection of private facilities also includes two courses in Massachusetts: Cape Club of Sharon (Massachusetts) and Cape Club of Falmouth (Massachusetts).

Below are photos of the Cape Club that were taken during a trip to Golfweek’s Best Course Raters.
