The annual Masters Par 3 Contest provides memorable moments for both golfers and their families.
The short course is played by golfers with their families. Their kids are dressed in all-white caddie suits.
Every year, it is mentioned that no one has ever won the Par 3 and then went on to win the Masters Tournament the following week. However, that doesn’t diminish the enjoyment of Wednesday traditions.
Augusta National founder Clifford Roberts hired Savannah’s George Cobb to design the original Par 3 course. Cobb’s design required that the nine holes be played over DeSoto Springs Pond. Three decades later, Tom Fazio was hired by the club to add two holes (Nos. 8 and 9 over Ike’s Pond. Cobb’s opening two greens were converted to spectator seating.
