Viktor Hovland, a Norwegian golfer who turned pro following the 2019 U.S. Open in Pebble Beach signed an endorsement agreement with Ping. Hovland was a star golfer at Oklahoma State. He won the 2018 U.S. Amateur in Pebble Beach, and he was the lowest amateur at the 2019 Masters. So, the pedigree of Hovland was obvious.
Hovland, who was born in 1977, has played for two Ryder Cup teams and won numerous PGA Tour tournaments, including the FedEx Cup 2023. He was a dominant force in Rome, two weeks ago. At Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, he helped the European team reclaim their Ryder Cup.
Ping will release 100 PLD “Hovi” putters on Tuesday, 10 October at 2 pm Eastern time for $990 to celebrate Hovland’s achievements.
The limited-edition putters are made from 1018 carbon and match the shape, size, and weight of Hovland’s PLD DS72. All 36″ clubs have the same 360-gram headweight, a top-rail and back-flange, and the same red Winn 15″ Long Pistol grip as Hovland. Ping engraved the words “Hovi .”” on the sole of each club.
John K. Solheim is the CEO and President of Ping. He said, “It’s been a pleasure to watch Viktor improve every year.” His stellar putting is well-documented, and we are excited to offer golfers a custom-built ‘Hovi’ model through the PLD Limited Program. It’s not only for collectors. We encourage those who are lucky enough to own one to play it and take it out on the course. This will be the best investment they’ve ever made .”
Ping PLD Custom, a program that will begin in 2022, offers golfers the opportunity to customize their putters with exotic materials, stampings, and unique setups. Ping also launched special limited-edition Ping putters using the PLD program this year. The brand, for example, sold 88 Ping Slam 88 putters in honor of the 35th anniversary when players used a Ping golf putter to win all the men’s majors in 1988.
