Ping Slam putters in limited edition commemorate the brand’s 35-year success

Mar, 2023

Golf equipment companies often see a spike in interest after a player wins a PGA Tour tournament. Because the entire world watches, this effect is magnified at major championships. In 1988, all four major men’s championships were won using a Ping putter. The Phoenix-based company had ample reason to celebrate and increase production.

Ping will release the first four PLD putters from the Ping Slam collection to celebrate the 35th anniversary.

Ping released the PLD Limited Anser patent 55 putters last year to celebrate the 55th anniversary. According to Ping, each of the four versions sold out in three minutes or less, which proves that there is huge demand for the limited-edition products.

Replicas of the 1988 major-winning Pal, Pal 2, Zing 2 & Anser will be available this year starting Tuesday of this year’s men’s major championship week. However, only 88 of these replicas are being made and will retail for $990 each at pingpld.com. On December 5, 35 complete sets Ping Slam putters will be on sale, with a custom-designed display unit.

John A. Solheim (Ping’s executive chairman) said that the company is excited to offer the legendary putters to the golfers. He is the son of Karsten Solheim, the founder of the company. It’s a wonderful way to honor Karsten’s achievements and all that he contributed to the design of putters while also celebrating with loyal Ping fans. Golfers can choose to buy one of the 88 putters at the major, or wait until the end to get all four. We expect the putters will sell quickly so we encourage anyone interested to plan ahead.

Every Ping Slam series putter comes fully machined and custom-built at the Ping WrX department located at the company’s headquarters. This is where putters are used by professionals like Tony Finau, Tyrrell Hatton, and Viktor Hovland. Every Ping Slam putter is serialized to ensure authenticity.

The Ping Slam Pal will be available on Tuesday to honor Sandy Lyle’s 1988 Masters win using an original Pal. Lyle’s putter was made from manganese bronze. The Ping Slam model, however, is milled out of an aluminum/bronze alloy. It has the exact shape with a perimeter-weighted head that features a shorter blade and Anser hosel.

Golfweek will be the season’s main approach and feature the rest of Ping Slam’s lineup.
