Roger Maltbie led a life of charm.
He’s the one to admit that 12 professional tournaments including the first Memorial Tournament in Jack’s Place, and the old World Series of Golf, at Firestone, far exceeded his expectations. It was a very respectable career. He then made a smooth transition to television, where he worked for NBC/Golf Channel for over three decades, becoming a fan favourite.
Maltbie discusses his last appearance on the microphone this weekend in Las Vegas at the Shriners Children’s Open. You can read the first part of the Q&A by clicking here.
Maltbie has been reduced to only a few second-tier events this season. He doesn’t yet know if he will be asked back in the same capacity for next season. After a long conversation, Maltbie said goodbye with the classic phrase: “I have to get dressed.” Let’s hope he is asked back for another season.
