LIV Golf League made no mistakes in launching its second season last Wednesday. The Honda Classic on PGA Tour was placed between four events (WM Phoenix Open Genesis Invitational Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship), which were all played by the top players around the globe.
LIV refused to compete with any of them and decided to take on the Honda Classic to benefit from the stronger field.
It didn’t work.
According to Josh Carpenter, the Sports Business Journal, LIV’s inaugural event on The CW Network attracted 291K viewers Sunday.
Honda Classic on the other hand, raked in 2.38 millions.
The league funded by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund still has some way to go.
