According to a report by the Charlotte Business Journal , Wells Fargo has decided not to sponsor the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Wells Fargo extended its sponsorship of the PGA Tour for five years in 2019. However, after the 2019 event, the popular tournament will require a new sponsor.
Since 2003, several big names have taken home the Wells Fargo, including Tiger Woods (2007, Rory McIlroy (2010), Jim Furyk (2005), Ricky Fowler (2012, Max Homa 2019 and 2021), Vijay Singh (2005, Jim Furyk 2006), Jason Day (2018, 2021), Max Homa (1999, 2020).
Both McIlroy and Fowler won their first Tour titles in 2010.
Wyndham, the tournament’s defending champ, won the U.S. Open that summer.
According to Josh Carpenter of the Sports Business Journal , Wells Fargo wanted the deal to continue but was not willing to pay for it.
