A fan heckled one of golf’s top players during the first round of Thursday’s 151 stOpen at Royal Liverpool because he had decided to withdraw from investing in British soccer club Leeds United.

“That’s an unprecedented event.” Fowler suggested on Thursday that he might want to put his own money up.
He added on Saturday, “other then maybe one or two ‘cowardly’ comments here and there, 99.9 per cent (of fans) are incredible.” You have to deal with this wherever you go. “Same thing in the States”, he said.
Fowler, when asked if there was a chance he would change his mind, said the ship had sailed. Fowler’s financial team decided it was too risky based on the schedule they had. However, he would not be against another deal in the future so that he could become a stakeholder in a new team.
He said, “I hope that they play well to get the situation turned around. I know JT would be happy.” It doesn’t affect my interest in the sport at all. There are other options, and football (or soccer as it’s called in the States) isn’t something that is as popular as it is here. But even those of us who don’t watch it as closely as Americans do, appreciate the sport.
“I would love to get involved in something like this when opportunities such as that arise.” We’ll have to wait and see what the future brings.
Fowler was asked if he supported a particular team. He replied, “I do not, but I am sure that if they have some financial backing, then I will be there to support them.” I can be bought.”
