McIlroy told reporters at Team Europe’s Ryder Cup Press Conference that the situation will be fine, even though he and Joe LaCava still haven’t met to discuss hat-gate. They have, however, texted each other.
After LaCava got in the way and made a fuss, the pair had a heated debate on the 18 thgreenSaturday evening.
McIlory said, “It is still a source of disagreement and it hurts, but time heals and we will all move forward.”
Jamie Weir, a SkySports reporter, began the storyline with a report on Saturday morning. Weir stated that Patrick Cantlay refused to wear the team hat because he wanted Ryder Cup players paid. European fans responded by waving their team hats all weekend at the American golfer.
The scene culminated on Saturday evening when Cantlay’s coach, Joe LaCava waved his hat as Cantlay made a match-winning puttingt, giving the U.S. squad life going into singles.
Cantlay is leading the split in the US team, who believe that players should be compensated for participating in the Ryder Cup. He is showing his frustration by refusing a team cap.

McIlroy was upset by LaCava’s behavior. His frustrations reached boiling point in the parking area when he became agitated while speaking to his caddie Jim “Bones Mackay”. Mackay received a text message from the Northern Irishman Sunday morning apologizing. Shane Lowry was responsible for pulling McIlroy out of the car and into a courtesy vehicle.
McIlory said, “He was my first American after I left the locker room. He was the one who took the brunt.” He was in the wrong place and at the wrong moment.
McIlroy was asked if he scraped car parks much. He replied “No. But if I have to ….”
Lowry continued: “I was going to have to do all the hard work.” I had to do the whole thing.

McIlory was relieved when Lowry intervened. He noted that Lowry took him to the cold plunge at the hotel to literally cool down.
McIlory said, “We discussed it last night as a group.” “We felt it was disrespectful and it wasn’t only disrespectful to Fitz or I. It was disrespectful towards the entire team.
I understand that when we play in the States, we also get the banter, and the same thing happens here. It’s the way things are. The Ryder Cup is the way it goes. You need to be tough. “That’s the way things are.”
Cantlay said Weir’s report was “totally untrue.”
The next Ryder Cup is set to take place in New York at the famed Bethpage Black Golf Club, where fans will not hold back.
