Rory McIlroy was beaten by the 2023 Masters.
He changed his equipment, made scouting visits to Augusta National but still missed the weekend. The little mistakes added up and he missed the career grand-slam again.
Next up was the RBC Heritage, an event with the most impressive field ever.
He was criticized for his withdrawal, because it was the second event that he had missed in 2023.
He returns to Quail Hollow Club for the Wells Fargo Championship, where he won his first Tour in 2010.
Todd Lewis , Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis , spoke to the three-time Charlotte winner , about his decision not to play in Hilton Head Island but instead spend time at home.
He said, “More importantly for my mental and psychological well-being, I needed to stay at home during those few weeks… I feel like I’m in better shape than I was.”
It’s been an exhausting year mentally.”

Should you be surprised if McIlroy wins on Sunday?
Well, no.
The Northern Irishman won the Wells Fargo his next time out in 2021 after missing the Augusta cut. Since the beginning of the 2020-21 golf season, McIlroy finished in the top 10 on five occasions after an MC. (Seven missed cuts were recorded during this span.)
