Rory McIlroy has won the Race to Dubai season title for the second time in a row. This is the fifth time he’s done it in his career. However, he was not victorious in this week’s race to Dubai, as the honor went his Ryder Cup Teammate, Nicolai Hjgaard.
Hojgaard finished second in the Nedbank Golf Challenge last week, which was held in South Africa. He closed his round with an 8 under 64 on Jumeirah Golf Estates Earth Course, including a stretch of 5 straight birdies along the back nine, Nos. 13-17 to win by two shots over Tommy Fleetwood and Viktor Hovland. The 22-year old won his first Rolex Series and third DP World Tour titles.
It means a great deal. He said, “It’s the best one.” It’s the sweetest one,” he said.
“I can’t even believe what just happened.”
McIlroy sounded pleased after winning another title for the season. He tied with 22nd place at 10 under.
“It’s great. It shows my consistency from year to year. “I think that over the past ten years I have won eight titles in a season between America and here. It just shows my consistency,” said he. “I told Harry on the final green that there are only a handful of guys who can beat me one week or next, but I doubt that there will be many people that beat me for the whole season.”
