DUBLIN (Ohio) — Rory McIlroy is the winner of 23 PGA Tour victories, including four major titles.
The Northern Irishman would like to fill a void in his resume.
McIlroy never received that handshake of victory from Jack Nicklaus during the Memorial Tournament.
It is now within reach. McIlroy, who shot a 2-under-70 Saturday at Muirfield Village Golf Club, shares the lead with Si Woo Kim at Muirfield Village Golf Club at 6-under.
McIlroy (34), has never achieved a better finish than fourth place at the Memorial.
He said, “Winning this tournament would be a huge honor for me.” “I have played well here for years, but I never had a chance to win. To be able walk up the hill and receive a handshake from Jack from 18, would be a nice thing.
“I won Arnold Palmer’s tournament several years ago but he was already dead at the time. It would be wonderful to be able do it with Jack there.”
McIlroy has had to work hard to reach the top of leaderboard. McIlroy’s solid first round on Thursday ended in a triple bogey after he found himself with an awful lie just off the 18 th green, leaving him even par. McIlroy then shot 68, putting him in good shape for the weekend.
McIlroy has always been a gifted driver, but his swing has been erratic in recent months. He has throttled down a lot this week.
He said, “This course remains very playable on the fairways.” I’ve been doing a great job of keeping the ball on the course this week, and hitting many 3-woods and irons from the tee. Tomorrow, I must stick to my game plan and not be too aggressive or ahead of myself. “If I stick with the game plan that I played the last three day, I will have a good chance.”
McIlroy scrambled exceptionally well on Saturday.
McIlroy stated, “I don’t believe I hit a putting green from the 8th hole to the 14th hole and I played these holes at even par.”
He made a birdie at No. The 12th hole made up for the bogey at No. 10. McIlroy sandwiched his bogey at No. Birdies on 15 and 17 were sandwiched around the 16th. The No. He made a par putt of 9 feet on No.

McIlroy and Kim will form the final pairing.
He said, “It’s an important tournament and I have a lot of experience.” You would think that this gives you an edge. This golf course is uncomfortable for everyone, regardless of their position in the tournament.
Twenty-two players are within three shots, including Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa. Hideki Matsuyama, Patrick Cantlay and Jordan Spieth.
McIlroy stated that the winner of the final stretch will be the one who is able to hold his head up the most.
Nicklaus’s handshake is waiting for him if it’s he.
