Rumors on social media suggest that Jon Rahm will not play TGL 2024

Nov, 2023

TGL is slowly releasing the names of teams and its format in order to create hype for its first match, which will take place on Jan. 9, 2020. The tech-infused Golf League had some bad news on Thursday.

Jon Rahm will not be playing the inaugural season.

Two-time major winner, Rahm was among the first to join Tiger Woods’ and Rory McIlroy’s venture. Six teams of four will compete in a simulator with the latest technology in a newly constructed stadium in Florida. Rahm was an 11-time PGA Tour winner and Player of the year in 2021. He was removed earlier this week from the league’s social media pages and website. The league released the following statement on Thursday:

We will miss Rahm during the first TGL season. We respect Jon’s decision and wish him all the best .”

The league has said that it will soon name a replacement for Rahm.

Social media was ablaze with rumors that Rahm could be the next golfer to join LIV Golf. This is especially true after Phil Mickelson, LIV officials and the team champions at the recent team tournament said that a new talent will make the leap to LIV by 2024. Rahm used to be managed by Phil’s older brother Tim. Both Rahm and Lefty were managed by Sportfive, the same agency that manages Phil.

Rahm has not officially announced his intention to join LIV. This would be a shocking move for anyone who follows the game. The 2023 Masters winner was insistent that LIV Golf’s Sergio Garcia be included in the recent Ryder Cup. He has also been vocal in his support of the Tour in the past year.

There will still be players who choose to transition to LIV, is my guess,” a href=”https://golfweek.usatoday.com/2023/01/03/pga-tour-jon rahm liv golf news/” rel=”noopener” target=”_blank”>said Rahm in January of this year. Rahm said in January this year that there will still be players who choose to move to LIV. “But I think that for a number of us, we can see the direction in which the PGA Tour will be heading, right?” They’re adapting to the new age, and I believe it’s for the better of everyone.

He said that while he understood the appeal of LIV Golf for some people, “To tell the truth, I don’t find a lot about the format (LIV), appealing.” To me, shotgun three days is not a tournament. There’s no cut. “It’s just that simple,” stated Rahm. I want to compete against the world’s best players in a format which has been around for hundreds of year. “That’s what I hope to see.”
