PONTE VEDRA BAY, Fla. — Lanto Griff pulled out of the Players Championship on Wednesday due to an injury to his intercostal muscles.
Ryan Armour will be taking his place on the field.
Griffin, originally from California, withdrew his entry three weeks ago, after scoring a first-round of 71 at Riviera’s Genesis Invitational.
This season, he has finished two events on the PGA Tour. He tied for 37th at Farmers Insurance Open and tied for 58th AT&T Pebble Beach. Griffin won the Houston Open in 2020, his first PGA Tour win.
Griffin has been at The Players twice. He shot a 3-under 285 to tie 35th in 2021, and missed the cut last year with a second-round 80.
This year’s Players for Armour, 47 years old, will be his fifth. He is originally from Akron in Ohio. He withdrew in 2008 after missing the cut. In 2018 and 2019, he was not eligible for the cut. In 2021, he tied for 55th at even-par 288, which would have been his fifth consecutive year.
