All 12 squad members arrived at Wentworth Club to play in a final tournament before the bi-annual matches against the Americans. They all made it, including Tyrrell, who birdied 18th hole and tied the top spot on the leaderboard with 17 under.

Fox, however, was the one who overcame his triple-bogey on the third with eight birdies in his final 13 holes. He won his first Rolex Series by a single shot over Hatton & Aaron Rai.

He said, “I played well, from the third to the last hole, I didn’t miss any shots.” It was pretty cool to know that I could win the tournament and make it.

Fox birdied the first four holes of the second nine, before the weather stopped the action.

The back nine was insane. “I made birdie on the 15, first hole after the delay, I made it from the trees,” he said.

Jon Rahm grabbed solo fourth, two shots back. He missed an eagle on the 18th, which would have tied him with the leader.

Rai had an eagle-putt at the final and, while it was tracking, his ball could only catch a little bit of the edge and it lipped.

Ryder Cup rookie Ludvig berg, who will be playing in the event, held a 54-hole lead of one shot after rounds 68-66 66, but he shot a final round 76. His card featured two bogeys two double bogeys as well as only two birdies.

Shane Lowry, the defending tournament champion, tied for 18th place after shooting a final round 71. This included a 9, on the par-5 hole at 17.
