Ryan Gerard leads the PGA Tour’s Barracuda Championship by a large margin

In a Modified Stableford event, big numbers are the name of game. Ryan Gerard has been putting them up in abundance this week.

Gerard scored 16 birdies in two rounds of the Tahoe Mountain Club Old Greenwood, in Truckee in California. Each birdie is worth two points under this unique scoring system. Gerard’s two late bogeys on Thursday cost him one point, but through 36 holes he has 30 points and leads the 2023 Barracuda Championship.

Gerard’s top finish in this season was a fourth place solo at the Honda Classic, which took place in February. In 14 events, he has missed nine cuts.

Patrick Rodgers made an impressive late move, birdieing three of his four last holes to reach 26 points and finish second.

Vincent Norrman is back to his winning ways this week. He was a first-time Tour victor a week earlier in the Barbasol Championship. The Barracuda, an opposite-field tournament, also won . He has 23 point.

S.Y. Noh was the leader after the first round, with 23 points. Three eagles were worth five points each. He became the fourth player in this season to score three eagles within a single round. Noh had a bad day on Friday at Old Greenwood, posting a score of minus-5 after he made two double bogeys and a bogey, with only one birdie. Noh’s Friday 75 put him in a tie with 10th place.
