Sam Burns was seated on a porcelain throne on the day that U.S. Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson invited him to join the team.

Sam Burns will not be sitting in Rome during the first session Ryder Cup. He will, in fact, be playing the opening match in the opening session . However, he was seated when he found out he made the U.S. Team. Not just anywhere. He was on the toilet.

Burns told Taylor Zarzour of SiriusXM that Zach Johnson, the U.S. captain had called him to tell him he was selected as one of the six captains’ picks for the 12-man U.S. team.

Johnson texted him Sunday night, after the Tour Championship to let him know he would be calling him the next day. Burns, after a sleepless night staring up at the ceiling, told Carolyn that they needed to get out of their house and pass the time. Burns was compelled to go outside when they returned. His phone rang.

Zach called Burns while I was replying to Justin Thomas.

Burns said that when he received the call two years ago telling him he wasn’t on the team, he was in “mid-poop”. Johnson then invited Burns to join his team, and Burns started crying.

Burns explained: “While I am on the phone I try to wipe and tell Carolyn that she just came around the corner, so I gave her thumbs up.” “That’s the real world right there.”

It is.

It’s hard to describe it in words. Here you can watch Burns telling his story.
