ROME – Viktor Hovland, Ludvig Aberg, and their fans could have screamed at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club’s 11th green, “Are You Not Entertaining?”
The 44th Ryder Cup was a rout for the ages. Hovland and Aberg from Norway and Sweden smashed the American pair of Scottie Scheffler, and Brooke Koepka by 9 and 7 respectively. The worst Ryder Cup loss ever in any format.
Hovland stated, “I do not think we could’ve done much better.” It’s nice that we can speak in our own language, and understand each other. It’s obvious that we share the same sense of humor and culture. Ludvig is a star. “He doesn’t miss any shots, so when I play well and he plays well we just feed off each other.”
It was a mixture of European brilliance with American ineptitude. The world’s No. The world No. The Euros then stepped it up, scoring four birdies on the first ten holes to take an eight-hole lead. The Euros only missed one green on their front nine and they hit every fairway. Comparatively, the Americans shot 7 over. The Americans’ misery only lasted 2 hours, 19 minutes, and 11 holes by 4:10 am. ET. Scheffler was in tears afterwards.
A World feed announcer said with a sombre tone, “Horrible for the Americans. They are quite embarrassed for themselves.”
This was an easy win for Team Europe. They may even have discovered a pair that will be a force to reckon with in the coming decade.
