Scottie Scheffler’s equipment change has been a success so far in the Hero World Challenge

Dec, 2023

Scottie Scheffler was the PGA Tour leader in Strokes Gained Total last season with an average of 2.314. This is despite him ranking No. Strokes gained: Putting (minus 0.301) ranked 162 on the PGA Tour. Scheffler, on the other hand, was so good at his driver, irons, and wedges that he had the lowest score average on the PGA Tour, despite the fact that he was giving shots away on the green.

Scheffler was aware of this. He spent most of the weeks leading up to PGA Tour events on the practice green. He also made a couple putter adjustments along the way. Scheffler had the Scotty Cameron Special Select Timeless Tour, which he used in the Players Championship, put aside at the end the season to be replaced by a TaylorMade spider milled protoype. He then returned the heel-toe blade into play.

The world’s number one player, Scheffler, is competing at the Hero World Challenge this week. The world’s No. 1 player, Scheffler, is using not only a new TaylorMade LS Qi10 driver, which is the same club Rory McIlroy, and Tiger Woods use, but also a brand new putter made by Olson Putter Co.

Logan Olsen founded the company and makes every putter he offers himself. Instagram of the company is full of images showing prototype and customized putters, with unique necks and finishes. Olsen makes metal divots tools and ball makers.

Scheffler’s putter is clearly modelled after the Ping Anser 2. It has a heel-toe weighed blade shape with angular bumpers on the back and a thin, topline. There are also mill marks that appear to be smaller than the diameter of a golf ball on the topline. The numbers 343 and 303 are stamped on the toe of the tri-sole along with Scottie’s name. These numbers are likely to refer to the weight, 343 grams, of the head and the material, 303 stainless-steel, but this has not been confirmed.

Scheffler is tied for first place in the Hero World Challenge at The Albany, Bahamas, hosted by Tiger Woods. After shooting rounds of 65 and 69, he is putting very well and has a good score. He is ranked fifth in Strokes Gained : Putting (2.491). He putted three times from more than 20 feet on Thursday, and a 17-footer as well as another 20-footer Friday.
