Scotty Cameron introduced the Super Select Family blade-style putters at the PGA Merchandise Show in January. Now Titleist’s putter guru has expanded the Super Select line by adding four new clubs.
Super Select Del Mar and Fastball 1.5 are compact mallets designed to create the same sound and feel as the Super Select blades, but with larger heads and perimeter weighting. They should offer more forgiveness.
The new mallets are milled from a block made of 303 stainless before they are shaped. After the new dual milling is done, the first pass with a computer controlled bit creates a series deep cuts in the face. A second pass flattens out the peaks. Cameron says that dual milling has the same soft feel and low-pitched sound as “deep milling”, but it also gets more steel in contact with ball, increasing consistency and improving roll.
The Super Select putters have a pair of weights that can be adjusted by the fitter to suit the player’s preferences and the length of the club.
Del Mar, the smallest mallet, is made of steel. The Fastback 1.5 and Golo 6 are also all-steel, but portions of the sole have been removed from the Golo 6 before the 6061 aircraft grade aluminum sole plate was screwed in place. The weight was removed from the head center, allowing more weight to be placed in the heel or toe. This increases stability and forgiveness.
Scotty Cameron Super Select Del Mar and Fastback 1.5 are available for $449.
