Who they’re for: Professionals with high-end equipment who value feel and performance but don’t mind sacrificing looks and style.
The Skinny While the Newport and Newport 2 are stalwarts, the modifications to these models will please the purists. However, the Plus versions for those golfers who prefer a thicker blade and more advanced milling technology may make them more popular.
The Deep Dive: Many plans were changed over the years to keep up with the changing demands of the world. This has been a problem with golf equipment. The Scotty Cameron Special Select line, which was released in 2020, was originally intended to be on the market for two years. Instead, it ended up being sold at retail for three.
But, the Scotty Cameron Super Select Putters are now available.
The base models were not modified in any way. The Newport and Newport 2 remain heel-toe-weighted blades, with a low profile. The Fastback 1.5 blends a Newport knife and a mallet. Cameron enthusiasts will be aware that the putters have a modified neck, which Cameron calls an “I Beam”, which reduces weight.
The addition of Newport 2 and Newport 2 Plus, along with Newport 2.5 Plus, is what is new.

Each putter’s Plus version has the same blade lengths as the standard model. They also have adjustable weights at the heel and toe of the soles to make it easier for fitters to adjust the club’s swing weight. They have a wider back, which gives them a solid look in the address. The sole is also covered with 303 stainless steel. The weight shifts to the perimeter when steel is removed and aluminum is put in its place. Plus models are larger and have a higher moment of inertia.
According to the company, the Plus putters will debut on the PGA Tour in 2022.

Cameron also introduced face milling to the Super Select putters. A computer-controlled bit spins the face and cuts tiny ribbons of metal, just like previous deep-milled putters. This creates the circular pattern. The Super Select putter line uses a second milling to remove the peaks between the circular grooves left by the first milling. This results in a deeper sound and more consistent strike after strike of a deep milling pattern. The ball is hitting the flattened areas between mill marks, not the points.

Six models will be available in the initial release.
- Super Select Newport Plus. The heel-toe-weighted blades are compact in size and have a plumber’s neck tube.
- Super Select Newport 2 plus. The Super Select Newport 2+ and Newport 2 Plus have a longer blade and narrower topline, similar to the Newport putters. They also have square-off back pieces.
- Squareback Plus, Super Select Newport 2.5+, Squareback Plus. These putters are designed for golfers who prefer a squared approach and want the stability of a full-sized mallet with a blade-style putter.
In mid-May, four additional models will be available in stores, including the Del Mar and GoLo 6 as well as Fastback 1.5.
