According to a press release issued by the European circuit, Sergio Garcia has officially resigned as DP World Tour players.
According to the press release, the players were sanctioned “for serious violations of the Tour’s Conflicting Tournament Regulation that they committed in June last year.”
The DP World Tour wishes to thank all four players, and especially Sergio Ian and Lee for their significant contribution to Europe’s Ryder Cup success over the years.
“Their resignations and the sanctions they were imposed are, however, a result of their own decisions.
“As we’ve consistently stated throughout the last year, the Tour is responsible to its membership for administering the member regulations that each player signs. These regulations were put in place to protect all DP World Tour players’ collective interests.
Sports Resolutions , an independent panel based in the United Kingdom, ruled on April 6 in favor of DP World Tour, allowing it to fine or suspend LIV golf players who participated in competing events without permission.
Members of the DP World Tour, who participated in the opening tournament in London last June sponsored by Saudi Arabia’s LIV Golf, requested a conflicting-event exemption. However, the DP World Tour refused the request. These players were fined and banned from three events.
Participating in DP World Tour races was the only way for many LIV members to earn points towards their world ranking.
A player must be a DP World Tour member to qualify to represent Europe at the Ryder Cup.
