Sergio Garcia is a regular at the Open Championship. He has done so since 1997. This streak will come to an end as the LIV Golf player failed to qualify this year.
The Spaniard completed the 6,973 yard West Lancashire par 72 course with rounds of 67 and 71. This was good for 6 under, and a T-6 result.
There were only five spots available at West Lancashire, and they will be awarded to Matt Wallace (first, 11 under), Matthew Jordan, (T-2), 10 under, Kyle Barker, (T-2), 10 under, Alex Fitzpatrick, (T-4), 9 under, and Tiger Christensen, (T-4), 9 under.
Garcia has played 24 times at the Open since 1998. He missed just four cuts, and finished in 12 of the top 20 finishes. Ten of those were top 10. In 2007, he won the silver medal at Carnoustie, his best finish.
Garcia has played in the two major championships this year, but missed the cut at both the Masters and the U.S. Open.
