Sep, 2023

Shubhankar Singh, who posted a 7-under-par 65 at The K Club in the afternoon of Thursday, topped the competition on a day when low scores were abundant. More than half of the field (82 out 156) had scored below par.

Sharma, who started his day at No. Sharma, who began his day on No. 16 and 17 were birdied before he drained his 104-yard drive into the par-5 18.

Sharma then added circles to Nos. Sharma’s 7-under-par performance was solidified by his 2 and 4 holes. The 27-year old, who placed T-8 at the Open Championship last July, is yet to win on the PGA Tour, and hasn’t won on the DP World Tour in 2018.

Six players are just one shot behind Thomas Bjorn, 52 years old. Thomas Bjorn surprised himself in the first round of the Horizon Irish Open.

Bjorn, who signed for a 6-under-66, said: “I’m lucky. I’ve played the golf course so often.” It’s been a while. Every year we played on the same greens and fairways.

“I drove very well today.” I drove it on the fairway. “I think I only missed one fairway during this round of Golf. Then this golf course is a lot more manageable.”

Six players, including European Ryder Cup winner Shane Lowry, and captain Luke Donald, are two players behind Sharma.

Rory McIlroy, Billy Horschel and were paired and had a great moment shared by all the golf swing geeks . They shot identical 3-under 69s.

McIlroy said that he had no problems on Thursday, despite sustaining a back problem prior to last month’s Tour Championship.

The Northern Irishman replied “No, not at all” when asked whether the back was a problem on Day 1. It’s just that I haven’t been able hit many balls. I’m hitting some good shots, but you know that it’s about knowing where you are missing the ball and where to aim or not aim. I was a bit unsure on a few shots today but overall I managed my self well and got around.”

McIlroy has won the Irish Open in 2016 at The K Club.
