South Korea and Spain were tied going into the final round at the Women’s World Amateur Team Championship. The Espirito-Santo Trophy was won by Korea for the fifth consecutive time.
The 2023 Women’s World Amateur Team Championship was won by Korea on Saturday, at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, after the country shot the second-lowest score of the day – a 5-under-139. The tournament ended with Korea finishing at 22-under-554, four shots ahead of Chinese Taipei, and five in advance of Spain.
The United States tied with Australia on 15 under after the final low round of 8-under 136. Anna Davis, an Auburn commit and the 2022 Augusta National Women’s Amateur champion, shot six under par for the tournament. Megan Schofill and Rachel Kuehn, both 2023 U.S. women’s amateur champions, finished each at 4 under.
Cindy Hsu from Chinese Taipei is a sophomore studying at Texas. She shot 13-under-275 to win the individual competition. She beat Cayetana Garcia-Poggio (a freshman at Texas A&M) by two shots. She beat No. 2 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking by two shots.
Kyorim Seo was the highest-finishing Korean, finishing third with 10 under.
The WATC is an biennial golf competition that involves two or three golfers representing 36 different countries. They play four days of stroke-play, with the lowest two scores of each day counting.
