The Splash Brothers have entered the golf team ownership business.
TGL announced that the latest owner group, which includes Steph Curry, has acquired the rights to TGL’s San Francisco team.
Marc Lasry, of the Avenue Sports Fund, is also a major investor. Curry’s Golden State Warriors teammate Klay Thompson, who is Curry’s Splash Brother, and Andre Iguodala are also investors.
Mr. Lasry stated that “Avenue is excited to be working with Stephen Curry in partnership with TMRW Sports, as a founding TGL Team.” Our ownership group is thrilled to be stewards for TGL San Fransisco and to represent Northern California. Northern California is the center of technology innovation, and it is an ideal location for a TGL in this new sports league. TGL San Francisco, as we prepare for the TGL’s first season to begin in January 2024 will focus on building a team of exceptional players. We are thrilled to have Andre Klay join our incredible ownership group.
Lasry is a sports leader who has shown his leadership as a former co-owner and champion of the Milwaukee Bucks NBA franchise. Avenue Sports Fund’s investment in TGL San Francisco was one of its first investments.
Curry’s relationship with Lasry, in the Avenue Sports Fund, is the newest addition to his growing portfolio of businesses, which includes the production company Unanimous Media, the lifestyle brand UNDERRATED Golf and Basketball, his Kentucky Straight Bourbon Gentleman’s Cut, and his foundation EAT. LEARN. PLAY. This event has raised over $47 million to benefit Oakland families and children.
“Northern California, with its hub of technology innovation, world-class golfers, and golf enthusiasts, is a perfect choice for the next TGL team. San Francisco has it all: the best golf courses in the country, the greatest golfers of history, and the most passionate golf fans. This TGL team, which combines the business expertise from Avenue Capital Group and the championship mentality of these NBA stars, will create a lot energy in the Bay Area as well as around the globe. “We’re honored to have them join TGL”, said Mr. McCarley.
