STEVENS POINT (WI). The bartender at District 1 Brewery slid four cold packs of beer, dripping with sweat, across the counter as easily as Steve Stricker putsts four-footers.
The customer was thrilled to receive his prize.
Mike Sheehan, District 1’s co-owner, laughed and said that he would like to brew a few batches more of the 5.2% alcohol-by-volume beverage.
Sheehan, who was surrounded by customers ordering more water from the taps at the time, said that their supply had already been half-empty as of the end Thursday night. The U.S. Senior Open is only five minutes away.
Sheehan said, “Steve wanted a light beer that was easy to drink for the summer.” It seems that this is growing a bit faster. It could be the older golfers.
A new batch will be brewed on Monday, and it will fill 140 cases.
Stricker, his brother-in law Mario Tiziani and their agent selected the beer from a few options and debuted it to the public in this month. Stricker’s family, players and agents were all given a few samples during the American Family Insurance Championship held in Madison in early June.
The Stricker designed TPC Wisconsin in Madison is home to the American Family Insurance Championship and has already been stocked with the product.
Stricker explained that “they reached out to us in the past year and it took some time to come up something.” After I told them my preferences, they gave me three options. We chose one and had a new name. Some people call me “Strick Nine.” It’s a play on words. Strychnine is deadly. “It’s fun, and all proceeds go to our foundation.”
Sheehan created the logo on the back of can. It is the molecular formulation for the poison, shaped and colored as a golf-hole.
Only the brewery located at 200 Division St. N. in Stevens Point and some local retailers sell this beer. Sheehan hopes that a larger distributor will be able to expand the beer to Milwaukee and other parts of Wisconsin.
Sheehan stated, “We are a small company.” “We opened six weeks before the COVID so our first two years have been really hard. As we’re only producing 800 barrels per year, we do not have a distributor. Because we’re self-distributing in a way, that limits us. We’re going to meet with a distributor in the middle of July because they heard this and wanted to help. This may lead to new opportunities in the southern part of the State, or even beyond.
