SAN DIEGO – After holding a share in the lead for his 425th round on the PGA Tour’s, Sam Ryder shot 4-under 68 at South Course Torrey Pines on Thursday to take his first solo lead at Farmers Insurance Open.

He said, “It’s part of why we play. So just trying to look around. Enjoy the moment.”

Ryder is a natural at keeping his cards – Ryder has won six consecutive years. Ryder is also winless in 147 starts, with two runner-up finishes.

Ryder’s second round 68 on South Course raised him to a 36-hole total at 12-under 132. This is three strokes more than Brandon Steele, his fellow player. This is the Tour’s largest 36-hole lead.

The field of 156 was often faced with sunny conditions, but the blustery conditions caused indecision on a day that was typically sunny.

Ryder stated, “We knew today would be like a put on your helmet and get ready for battle.”

To make it to the final, seventy-four golfers shot an even-par 144 score or better.
