TaylorMade launches its new Qi10 fairway woods, Qi10 Max, and Qi10 Tour rescue clubs

Jan, 2024

TaylorMade Qi10 fairway woods, rescue clubs and hybrids are all designed with two major improvements in technology to improve overall performance.

  1. The new carbon crowns are designed to reduce unwanted weight, allowing it to be distributed more efficiently throughout the head.
  2. The Qi10 range features optimized face and head designs that improve performance in each model.

TaylorMade’s engineers, according to a press release issued by the company regarding Qi10 products used “iterative simulations on the computer” to design the new head shape and thickness variations of the Qi10 faces and heads.

The Qi10 Max, Qi10 Tour and Qi10 fairway woods use “Infinity Carbon Crowns”, which helped to free up weight so that it could be placed lower in heads. This allowed for a higher inertia, and an expanded face profile, to boost ball speed across their faces.

TaylorMade’s fairway woods feature a variety of familiar technologies. These include a Thru Slot Speed Pocket, a Laser-etched Topline, V Steel sole designs and Internal Mass pads to balance the weight.

The Qi10 Max is designed to be more forgiving and easier to play than the Qi10 standard model.

TaylorMade claims that the Qi10 Max fairway is “the most forgiving fairway TaylorMade ever made”.

The Qi10 Tour, on the contrary, is constructed from a combination of Titanium and Carbon. It has a compact head shape with a 50-gram weight that can be moved in the sole to allow for precise weight placement. Golfers can increase their launch height and stability by moving the sliding weight backwards in the head. They can also achieve lower spin and a more penetration ball flight when they move the weight forward.

Qi10 Max and Qi10 models will go on sale at $349.99 each starting February 2, 2024. Qi10 fairway models include a 3-wood (15°, RH/LH), a 3-wood HL (16°, RH), a 5-wood (18°, RH/LH), s 7-wood (21°, LH/RH) and s 9-wood (24″, RH). The Qi10 Max includes a 3-wood (16°, RH/LH), 5-wood (18°, RH/LH), 7-wood (22.5°, LH/RH), 9-wood (24°, RH).

Qi10 Tour models are available from Feb. 16, 2024 and will cost $449.99 each. Qi10 tour options include a 3 wood (15 degrees, RH/LH) and a 5 wood (18 degrees, RH/LH).

TaylorMade Qi10 Rescue

TaylorMade also offers three models of its new Qi10 Rescue club.

The Qi10 Max Rescue and Qi10 Rescue clubs have all-new Carbon Crowns, which helped to free up weight in the heads for better weight distribution. The Qi10 Rescue features split internal weighting for greater distance and higher launch. And the Qi10 Max boasts an ultra-low center of gravity and shallow face height to further increase launch and forgiveness.

The Qi10 Rescue Tour model has a C300 Face with a compact design and a higher toe. It is designed for players who want to combine distance, control and iron-like turf interactions with workability and accuracy.

The Qi10 Rescue models are equipped with Thru Slot Speed Pockets, and Twist Face Corrective Face Technology to increase speed and forgiveness when striking off-center.

The Qi10 Rescue, Qi10 Max, and Qi10 Tour will all sell for $299.99 and be available in stores by February 2, 2024. The Qi10 Rescue is available in 19, 22, 25, 29, and 33 degree angles, the Qi10 Max, 20, 23, 27, 31, and 35 degree angles, and the Qi10 Tour, which comes in 17, 19.5 and 22-degree angles.

Club Junkies Take

The fairway woods and the hybrids are always the most difficult clubs to replace. TaylorMade hopes to make this change easier with its three new Qi10 high-performance models. The new Qi10 fairways share some of the technology found in the Infinity Crown driver line and have a lower center of gravity. They are longer and more playable. The V-Steel soles help to improve turf interaction, and the Qi10 Tour’s large, sliding weight helps to fine tune launch and spin. TaylorMade’s goal was to make the clubs longer and straighter. They seem to have hit it on target.

Qi10 Tour Fairway and Tour Rescue: It’s interesting that the name differs from the driver or the previous Stealth 2. However, the head looks compact. The Infinity Carbon Crown looks clean and seamless in comparison to Stealth 2 Plus. TaylorMade’s sliding weight of 50 grams can make a big difference in the ball’s flight and spin. The weight is similar in appearance but has a lower-profile design that helps launch the ball higher and with less spin. The Tour is much easier to launch off the deck than Stealth 2. I also noticed that the Tour had a higher flight when the weight was in the middle. It sounds great and feels good with the muted metallic sound. But it also produces a lot of speed, and can hit some very long shots both off the deck or off the tee.

The new Qi10 tour rescue has a cleaner look at address, with its standard gloss black finish. The shape is similar with its square toe and compact design, but the deeper face makes it look more rounded. This should make it easier for better players. The internal heel-toe balancing adds a level of forgiveness you would not expect, but the Tour Rescue also combats hooks and the left side. This neutral club will allow the better player to manipulate the ball to their left or right. This Rescue does not feel like a rocket, but it offers good distance and consistency from the deck or the tee. It launches a little higher than the Stealth 2 Plus Rescue.

Qi10 Max Fairway and Max Hybrid: The Qi10 Max from TaylorMade is a fairway that’s easy to hit with plenty of forgiveness. The large head gives you the confidence to hit it anywhere on the face. Even shots that are low on the face have a higher launch than expected. This fairway is very stable and, like the Max driver it wants to make a straight shot. Max had the least amount curvature when it came to fades and draws. Stock setup is lightweight and should allow slower players to swing faster.

As I was testing out the new woods, I grabbed the Qi10 Max Hybrid and hit it on the range just for fun. I was immediately shocked at how high and straight it flew. A simple swing resulted in a high, straight and soft landing shot. You can still hit the Max Fairway Wood very low and produce a ball that will stop quickly on the green. The Max will produce gentle draw all day long, while being extremely forgiving.

Qi10 Fairway and Hybrid: Although its siblings may steal some of the thunder, I believe the Qi10 fairway is going to be one the best-selling fairways in this year. The Qi10 fairway is a very playable club that will provide a higher launch and lower spin on long shots from the tee or turf. The Infinity Carbon Crown hides some of the head’s size. The face of the Max is deeper and I feel more confident when I hit it off the tee. The bonded look looks clean, and the engineers can use the weight elsewhere. I would have liked to see this version with the adjustable hosel. The Qi10 is a versatile head that can be used to hit the ball from a lie on the rough as well as a tight fairway. It has a nice turf interaction. The forgiveness is a great feature for most golfers. While it may not be as long as Tour, the Qi10 head will allow you to hit par 5s in 2 shots or down the fairway of a long par 4 with ease.

The Qi10 hybrid has evolved over the years into a beautiful shape. The transition between the hosel and leading edge is not too curved or hooked, so it sits squarely at almost every loft. Infinity Carbon Crown has a more modern look than SIM or Stealth, but still maintains enough size that you can swing it without worrying about being perfect. The sound is metallic, responsive and lets you know where you have made contact with the face. Even in the lower lofts, it’s easy to raise and fly. This hybrid is not anti-left, but it’s more neutral than it seems and the hook isn’t as big as you might think. The face height allows you to hit it from a tight lie on the fairway. On the next hole, you can split the fairway with a shorter par 4 by teeing it up. You will find this hybrid in the bags of scratch golfers, as well as newer golfers who are looking to improve.
