The TGL is now bicoastal.
In the beginning of this month, it was announced by TMRW Sports and Tiger Woods that Alexis Ohanian and tennis stars Serena Williams would own Los Angeles Golf Club. This is the first of six ownership groups in the tech-infused new golf league.
Fenway Sports Group was announced on Monday as the team that owns TGL Boston. This is the second team in the league. The new logo and team name will be announced at a future date. FSG is the parent of the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool Football Club.
The 12 players who have committed to TGL
FSG’s principal owner John Henry, and chairman Tom Werner said: “We are thrilled to embark on this new journey in honor of a town whose passion for sports and love of sports is unmatched.” New England sports fans can soon cheer on a team of PGA Tour-level players through this new tech-focused version. This will redefine what it means for the community to play the sport in the modern era.
Here’s a format for those who are unfamiliar with TGL’s plans:
Six teams, each consisting of three PGA Tour pros, will play 15 regular season Monday night matches. Semifinals and finals will follow in January 2024. The matches will take place at a short-game, tech-infused complex. Fans will be able see every shot over a 2-hour primetime broadcast.
Woods and McIlroy broke ground at the TGL venue in Palm Beach State College, Florida, in February. Twelve players, including Woods McIlroy Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas, have already committed to TGL.
