The 2023 U.S. Amateur Round of 16 at Cherry Hills

CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE (Colo.) — It was not a good morning to be the co-medalist at the 2023 U.S. Amateur.

Blades Brown became the youngest medalist of U.S.A. at age 16. Jackson Buchanan, Sampson Zheng and the top three seeds of Cherry Hills Country Club in Amateur History lost their Round 32 matches on Thursday.

Jackson Koivun, from Auburn, won three of the four holes after Brown’s loss. Brown shot 64 at Colorado Golf Club on Tuesday, the stroke play co-host. Koivun then won consecutive holes at Nos. The match ends with 14 and 15.

Buchanan, who is a senior at Illinois University, lost in a similar manner, falling 4-3 to Cooper Jones. Jones will be an incoming BYU freshman. The match was level at the ninth hole, but Jones won four consecutive holes to gain control.

After the Round of 16, all three medalists from stroke play and the top three seeded players were eliminated.

Nick Dunlap, the man who defeated World No. Connor Jones, a local, beat Gordon Sargent, World No. Next, he’ll play Bowen Mauss from Draper in Utah.

The quarterfinals are set for Friday after the Round of 16 on Thursday. The semi-finals will take place on Saturday, with the 36 hole final scheduled for Sunday.
