PEBBLE BEACH (Calif.) — The most difficult day at Pebble Beach Golf Links also happened to be the most spectacular. On Saturday, at the U.S. Women’s Open, winds gusted up to 25 mph and the sun finally broke through for the first time this week.
Only six players had not met the par requirements for the championship at the end of the day, and one player broke 70. Nasa Hataoka was the player who broke 70 on that day. He is arguably the best golfer in the world without a major. Hataoka shot a bogey free 66, vaulting him to the top.
