McIlroy won his 21st PGA Tour win at the Canadian Open in June. Rory was proud of his win as he passed Greg Norman (who has 20 Tour victories) on the all-time PGA Tour wins lists.
Rory stated that he felt more motivated by the events happening across the pond, referring to the Centurion Club’s inaugural LIV Golf event.
“The man who’s leading that tour has 20 wins and I was tied with them, so I wanted to get one more.” I was able to do that.
“So that was really cool – just a small sense of pride on this one. This will be a day that I will remember for a very long time.”
Greg Norman, who is not afraid to confront others, responded.
Rory wanted to beat me 20 PGA Tour wins, which I take as a compliment. His next goal should have been to win more than 90 tournaments worldwide or to remain No. 1 for 331 consecutive weeks.
The 33-year old has his sights on Norman’s landmark.
McIlroy spoke at the CJ CUP in South Carolina this week, expressing his desire to be back as the world’s number-one player. McIlroy would be able to regain the top spot at Congaree and build on his total time as the number 1 player for 107 weeks.
McIlroy has been at the top of the Official World Golf Rankings for more than two decades, but there are three other players who are ahead of him in the all-time list. Dustin Johnson is currently at the top with 135 weeks, Greg Norman has 331 weeks and Tiger Woods has an incredible 683.
Rory was once again asked about his ultimate goal for world ranking. He replied:
“332. “332.
McIlroy must sit atop OWGR for a cumulative 4.32 year in order to catch his rival.
