The Chevron Championship is a huge week for women’s golf – despite distractions like Tiger Woods’ news, Greg Norman’s LIV Golf talk and bad weather

The WOODLANDS (Texas) – A new chapter in women’s golf began this week at the Chevron Championship. 51 years of Dinah Desert history was transferred to Texas. Tiger Woods’ announcements often coincide with important weeks in the LPGA calendar.

The Chevron of this week has to overcome not only Woods’ news about surgery, but now Greg Norman from Australia’s comments that LIV Golf holds internal discussions “on an ongoing basis” on and how to become involved in women’s golf.

I have had personal discussions with LPGA Tour, LET Tour, and Ladies European Tour players. Norman said during a Grange Golf Club press conference ahead of LIV Golf, “They love what we are showcasing.” They ask us all the time how we can get involved. We would love to see LIV Ladies series. ‘”

It’s important to note that, while this isn’t news, LIV Golf hasn’t been discussed as much in LPGA circles last year.

Marina Alex, a two-time winner, said that many players had stopped talking about the issue in the past four to five months. She made this statement shortly after completing an opening 4-under 68. Alex is one stroke behind leader Peiyun Chien (one of the last players in the field) who was one of the first to enter the field.

The Nicklaus Course, which is 6,706 metres long, was a tough course to play on Thursday. Only 19 players were below par in the morning waves.

Alex said, “I believe that whoever manages his approach game correctly, tries to get the ball into the right section of the greens and avoids the miss error which will most likely cost him a bogey.” This is championship golf, in a nutshell. You have to plan your route and make as few mistakes as possible.

World No. Lydia Ko, the world’s number one golfer, opened with a score of 71. She was surprised at how well things went.

She said: “I struggled my first few rounds on this course, and I didn’t know what I was going to do.”

Georgia Hall, who is one of the most exciting players in golf right now, birdied the last two holes for a score of 70. Former AIG Women’s British Open winner Georgia Hall enjoys a longer course, something that the afternoon rain will ensure for Friday’s final round.

The game was suspended at 4:38 pm on Thursday. Thunderstorms caused the suspension of play on Thursday at 4:38 p.m. ET.

Hall has never finished outside of the top 15 this season. She’s also had two second-place finishes. She started the year in Saudi Arabia on the LET with her English compatriot Colin Cann who has been caddying the LPGA for 29 years.

Hall says she has not been contacted by LIV regarding a women’s tour.

She said “I haven’t heard of any discussions taking place, especially recently.” “A little last year but nothing recent.”

Many have been concerned about the potential impact of another tour on LPGA.

Karrie Webb, a seven-time major champion, told Golfweek in the summer of last year that she would hold grudges against players who chose to leave LPGA and join LIV.

Webb stated that if the LPGA suffered because some players started playing on another tour, similar to the (LIV), and the LPGA suffered as a result, I would hold this against them. “Greg Norman’s vendetta against the PGA Tour has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I don’t see any way to change him.” In his desire to succeed, I would ask that he not ruin women’s sport in the process.

Brittany Lincicome (two-time Chevron winner), who opened the tour with a score of 70, shared the same thoughts as her peers about the Saudi buzz.

She said, “I don’t remember hearing anything about this in a very long time.” “I’m not sure why. I thought they were focusing on lawsuits… I think it’s just a matter time before they come to us.”
