Tony Wise prepared to compete in the most significant tournament of his career, his very first U.S. Senior Open. He woke up with broken glass on his bed and no golf clubs.
Wise played a round of golf at Muirfield Village, in Dublin, Ohio on June 27. He left his clubs in the car at the hotel where he was staying, but when he woke, they were gone.
Wise felt great about his game going into the U.S. Senior Open. However, having his clubs stolen ruined what could have been the best week of his career.
Wise stated, “I played as well as I have ever done.” “I was hitting it great.”
The professional at Frankfort Country Club where Wise was a member did an excellent job in helping him put together a complete set within a short time frame, but at SentryWorld, the new driver proved to be a problem.
Wise is a regular player on the Amateur Players Tour. He qualified for this event in Hot Springs, Virginia, by shooting a score of 67. The qualifier was held at Homestead’s Cascades Course.
After winning the qualifier, Wise said to a local television station: “I have to pinch myself.” “Did it really happen?”
