CARTERSVILE (Ga.) – At Cartersville Country club, 96 of the best senior amateur golfers in the world will compete for individual and team glory.
CCC has welcomed 28 teams from the United States and three teams from Europe. A team from Canada also joined them. Some of the biggest names from the senior amateur game are among them.
Mike McCoy, the reigning Walker Cup Captain, is leading Team Iowa along with Terry Cook and Joe Palmer. Doug Hanzel (Georgia), Jon Lindstrom, (Colorado), and Bob Royak, (Georgia), are the three top-ranked seniors on the World Amateur Golf Rankings. Ten of the 50 WAGR senior players and two of top 20 European seniors are in the field.
This week it’s about more than just the golf legends. Stan Humphries, a former NFL quarterback, and Billy Joe Tolliver will also be teeing off this week. Tolliver, who was a Super Bowl 29 player with the San Diego Chargers at the time, and Humphries are both feeding their competitive spirit as they compete with the best of the game.
Nine Europeans made the trip to the other side of the pond in order to compete against an American field that was stacked.
Team Scotland is the team to beat, with No. Ronnie Clark, ranked No.4 in the WAGR European senior rankings and captained by Derek Patton, ranked No.20, is leading Team Scotland. 20 ranked Derek Patton.
The International title is up for grabs between Team Ireland, Germany, and Canada.

Combs (1990 Public Links), Hanzel (2013) Senior Am, Royak (2019 Senior Am), Strawn (2022) Senior Am and Mike McCoy (2013) Mid-Am are the five USGA champions in the field. They have a near-infinite number of USGA Championship starts between them and their fellow competitors.
