Gil Hanse, Jim Wagner and their team have been praised for restoring several major championship sites. This is a well-deserved accolade. The Country Club in Los Angeles, Winged Foot Golf Club, Southern Hills, and many other courses have hosted major championships since Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner restored them to their original designs.
What about Hanse and Wagner original work? The Fields Ranch East Course at Omni PGA Frisco Resort, near Dallas, is a great example of how they can also bring heat to their designs.
The East opened its doors to the public shortly after the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, won by Steve Stricker. This was the first of dozens top-tier tournaments scheduled to take place there.
The East, which is 7,863 yards long with a 72 par, is part of an entirely new complex, including a resort, dining and shopping options, a lit-up par-3 course, as well as a huge putting green. The East is located next to the West, which was designed by Beau Welling.
Below are photos of the East, many of which were taken by course photographer Evan Shiller. The rest of the photos come from the resort. Click here to view photos from the West.
