In 1921, the first unofficial Walker Cup took place at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club. This was followed by annual official contests in 1922-1924. They became biennial in 1925.

The Curtis Cup was first played in England in 1932, at the Wentworth Club.

The R&A announced on March 21, 2022 that the Walker Cup will move to odd years in 2026 in order to avoid any future conflicts with World Amateur Team Championships which will begin in odd years starting in 2023.

In the Walker Cup, Americans lead 38-9-1 in terms of all-time records. In the Curtis Cup they lead by 31-8-3.
