NATICK (Massachusetts) — The Natick Mall, a Boston suburb, will soon have a next-generation indoor minigolf course.
Puttshack is a Chicago startup developing the golf course. It claims that it will be the “world’s first and only upscale and tech-infused minigolf destination with global cuisine and drink.” There will be three courses spread over two floors.
Puttshack president Dave Diamond stated in a press release that Natick is the perfect place to expand our presence in Massachusetts because of its proximity to Boston and the heart of MetroWest suburbans. Puttshack will be available to both locals and tourists in the Boston region. It will offer a great spot for couples nights and high-energy, engaging outings with friends and family.
Puttshack opened a 26,000-square foot, four-course layout in Boston’s Seaport neighborhood last month. This was Puttshack’s third U.S. store, following Atlanta and Chicago. It plans to open at least 10 additional U.S. cities, according to reports.
The American Girl Doll Store closed in March 2019. Puttshack is planning a late 2023 opening.
Puttshack uses “Trackaball” technology. This is a tool that tracks golfers’ scores while they play the course. This game is different from traditional golf or mini-golf. Players get points based upon how many strokes they take to complete a hole. Bonus points are awarded for other accomplishments.
There are nine holes on each course, some of which can be quite difficult. The Boston location’s “Beer Pong” hole requires that you hit a ball up a ramp into one of the giant red cups in a beer pong pattern. The hole can be reached by dropping a ball through a cup at the top, or hitting it into one of the other cups.
Prices for games at the Boston location start at $18 per adult and $10 per child.
Natick will have barrooms on both floors and dining options.
This attraction replaces more traditional retail options and is the latest entertainment option at the Natick Mall. Level99 is a series escape rooms and games that opened on the second floor at the former Sears store in June 2021. In 2019, Dave & Buster’s restaurant chain opened its arcade.
