You would wonder if the American players who are in contention to win the Ryder Cup have learned anything.
The 2018 Ryder Cup took place at the National Golf Club of France and the DP World Tour held the French Open there. Seven European Ryder Cup players competed in the tournament. Justin Thomas, an American player, was the only American to compete.
Europe won by seven points. Thomas was the only bright spot for America with a 4-1, including a singles win over Rory McIlroy at 1-up in the opening match on Sunday.
Next week, the Italian Open will be held at Marco Simone – the venue of this year’s Ryder Cup. The Wells Fargo Championship, which takes place the same week, is a designated tournament with a purse of $20 million.
The U.S. Team is comprised of the six top-ranked players based on the point rankings, plus six captain’s choices. The European team consists of the top three players in each European Points List or World Points List plus six captains’ picks.

The European Ryder Cup competitors in the field include Victor Perez (from Spain), Thorbjorn Olsen (from Norway), Robert MacIntyre, and the Danish twins Nicolai & Rasmus Hojgaard.
Zach Johnson, the U.S. Captain, said that he is not worried and plans to bring U.S. Players on a trip to the course in August.
He told the Associated Press that the more you visit the site, the better. “But I have some plans that will help the team get used to a new golf course.”
Johnson has selected Davis Love III as the vice captain of the 2023 matches. The matches are scheduled for September 29-October 1. Love has two Ryder Cup stints (2012 and 2016) as well as six Ryder Cup appearances.
Love said in a press release that the Ryder Cup was a truly special event in sports. “I am honored to be appointed a Vice-Captain in Italy in 2023,” Love stated in a news release. “Zach is a hard worker and has been since he became Captain.
