BELMONT (Mich.) — The Meijer LPGA Classic is a LPGA staple.
This weekend, the Blythefield Country Club, located in Belmont (Michigan), just outside Grand Rapids, will host the ninth edition.
Ayaka Fuue, who is currently leading the tournament with 11 under, has a lot to think about this weekend.
Some golfers, like Chellachoi and Brooke Henderson, have had special moments after their wins with their fathers.
It is a weekend to remember for all fathers and their daughters.
What some top golfers have said about their fathers
Meijer LPGA Classic defending champion: Jennifer Kupcho, USA (9 under, 2 shots back)
“My father has always played a major role in my life, both on and off the course. He caddied my first five events when I started. It is fun to be able play on Father’s Day and to have won last year.
Amy Yang, Korea (10 under, 1 shot back)
Parents Day is celebrated in Korea. We are very close. He sacrificed much for me in order to improve my playing. He traveled with me until COVID was released. “He has always been there, helping me. It means a lot.”
Lindsey Weaver Wright, USA (9 under par, 2 shots behind)
It’s awesome that we play this tournament every Father’s Day. It was my dad who got me started in the game. I always want to do well this weekend as a gift for him.
Emily Kristine Petersen (Denmark) (9 under, 2 back shots).
“My father has meant so many things. When I was 12, he worked as a partner at a law office. He went off on his own to travel with me, so that I could follow my dream. It’s meant the world. I wouldn’t have been here without my father – or mom – however, my dad traveled a lot with me when I was young.”
