Since the beginning of the professional golf season, the Official World Golf Ranking system has become a hot topic. LIV Golf fought to be included in the system. The OWGR announced on Thursday that the leagues with no-cut and 54-hole events are still not eligible for points. One of these updates would affect a league like LIV as well as the PGA Tour.
The governing board made a change two months after the -OWGR denied LIV Golf’s application for points. This new curve would give a higher percentage of points for top finishers at events with 80 or fewer players. Points will also no longer be awarded to players who finish in the bottom 15% of events without a cut. In match play, players who lose the first round of their match or all matches within a pool format no longer receive points.
The update will affect the PGA Tour signature events of 2024 where there will be 70-80 players. The 36-hole cut will be applied to all players within 10 shots of winning the Memorial Tournament, Arnold Palmer Invitational or the Genesis Invitational. The Sentry, AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, RBC Heritage, Wells Fargo Championship, and Travelers Championship are the five signature events that will not feature a cut.
The top 12 players at the five events that are not cut (15 percent) will not earn any points.

The second update brings a new Multi-Win benefit, which offers a 60-percent bonus for players who have won a second time in a period of 52 weeks. A 70-percent bonus is awarded to players that win three times or more.
Peter Dawson, Chairman of the Official World Golf Ranking, stated in a press release that “based on extensive analysis after the changes implemented August 2022 we recognized these opportunities to further enhance OWGR and accurately evaluate performances by the world’s participants on all eligible Tours.” “Adjustments are made to the Ranking after careful consideration. We are confident that the updates today will better position OWGR in the future.”
The changes will take effect on January 1, 2024.
