Former British Open champion Shane Lowry and Rickie, a fan favorite, have committed to play in the American Express PGA Tour in La Quinta in January.
Fowler, Lowry and the other eight players who currently rank in the top 23 of the world rankings are now part of the field. This includes the No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, No. Patrick Cantlay, No. 6 Xander Schauffele.
The American Express is being played on three courses in La Quinta, Jan. 18-21: Nicklaus Tournament and Stadium courses at PGA West as well as La Quinta Country Club. On the first three rounds, 156 professionals will play alongside 156 amateurs. The fourth round will be played by only pros on the Stadium Course.
Fowler is one of the most successful golfers in the PGA Tour’s history. His win at the Rocket Mortgage Classic Detroit in 2018 was his sixth Tour victory. Fowler hadn’t won on Tour since the WM Phoenix Open, in 2019. Fowler ranks 23 th on the world rankings.
Lowry will make his debut at The American Express. He won the British Open in 2019, which was held in Northern Ireland. Lowry won two PGA Tour titles and four more on the DP World Tour. Lowry also played in the European Ryder Cup in Italy, where he was a part of the winning team. This was his second Ryder Cup.
Tom Kim, Jason Day and Tony Finau are also committed to La Quinta.
