Viktor Hovland has a unique character.
The 2023 FedEx Cup winner recently finished the best season of her career. He is on the Ryder Cup Team for the second consecutive time. He sits fourth in the Official World Golf Ranking ahead of the biennial competition in Rome, Italy.
He lives in Stillwater in Oklahoma, the home of Oklahoma State. This led to an interesting soundbite on how his prize of $18 million from the FedEx Cup could make a big difference in his hometown.
Hovland also enjoys heavy metal music. During the practice rounds in Rome at Marco Simone, his European teammates listened to his favorite song.
What are the reactions? Priceless.
Rory McIlroy replied, “Sounds devilish.” “That was the most horrifying thing I have ever heard.”
Sepp Straka added, “I think I’m going have to talk to him.”
Matt Fitzpatrick stated, “That’s hardly music.” “That’s horrendous.”
Jon Rahm asked, “What’s wrong with Viktor?”
Robert MacIntyre said, “That is brutal.”
Ludvig Aberg replied, “Yes, I have heard enough.” It’s terrible.
Tyrrell Hatton summarized their thoughts the best: “I don’t think you played it for more than 15 seconds there.”
Justin Rose also performed an air drum solo.
Hovland believes that his teammates should give the song some time to grow.
Hovland: “It is chaotic at first, but as you listen more, you start to hear the rhythms and beats and they all make sense.”
