Team Europe dominated the opening session of the 44 th Ryder Cup in Rome on Friday. They won all four foursomes matches. This was the first time in Ryder Cup’s history that the Euros had a 4-0 advantage.
Early on, the leaderboard was awash in blue as Jon Rahm & Tyrrell Hatton clinched the first point with a convincing victory over world no. Scottie Scheffler, Sam Burns and world No.
Luke Donald’s Euro Team had a great start. They chose to start with foursomes, for the first since 1993. The goal was to get off to a quick start. The Euros achieved this and more. The Euros had not won three-and-a half points or more during the opening session since 1969. None of the matches was even close. No matches reached the 18th green.
It’s a great start. Luke made a great decision to go with foursomes at the start and gain momentum. @RyderCupEurope

McIlroy stated, “We cannot be complacent in any way.” This is a long American Team. The American girls were up 4-0 last week in the first session at the Solheim Cup, but Europe was able to recover. We are not taking this for granted. It’s been a good start, but we have to keep the pedal down and continue winning points.”
