Tony Finau, who finished runner-up in 2022 to Jon Rahm, has taken the 36-hole leader at the Mexico Open.
Finau scored eight birdies in the area of Vidanta Valley, including two consecutive stretches — Nos. Finau’s seventh, eighth and nineth holes of the day were Nos. 16, 17, and 18. 5 and 6.
When asked about his confidence after two rounds, he replied: “I’m at the top of the list. I play well.” “With my experience we’re still only half way, there’s a lot of golf to play,” he said. You want to believe that you can win a tournament. “I’ve been fortunate enough to have done it a few time over the past year. But every week, every day, has its challenges. So this is not the time to get ahead.”
Finau (13-under) is one stroke ahead of Erik van Rooyen, Brandon Wu and Finau.
