The field this week was far from loaded. The only household names to make the trip south were Jon Rahm and Tony Finau. After 54 holes, these two players are at the top and it’s going to be a battle of titans in the 2023 Mexico Open.
The Spaniard was six shots behind Finau on Saturday, but caught fire in Vidanta. Rahm’s 10-under-61 in the third round, a tournament-record, is a record. He is now only two strokes back of Big Tone.
Finau began his day by making a birdie on the first. He had opened with rounds 65-64. After that, his opening nine was not too exciting. He did however add another birdie on the seventh.
Finau started his second half with a couple of pars. Then he snatched up three consecutive birdies at Nos. Finau added to his first three birdies at Nos. 12, 13 and 14, then another one at the 16th. He lost one at the par-3 seventeenth when he failed to convert a par putt of six feet. However, he gained it back at the final hole with a birdie.
Finau, who is 19 under par, signed for a 6-under 65 in the third round and will be teeing off on Sunday with a 2-stroke lead over Rahm.
We have all the highlights from Saturday for you. Below you can catch up on the third day of the Mexico Open 2023.
