The Americans were under pressure from Great Britain & Ireland early in the 2023 Walker Cup. However, a dominating performance on Sunday saw the United States retain the amateur golf’s highest prize.
Gordon Sargent has proven why he is the world’s No. 1 (and No. The Vanderbilt Junior went 4-0-0 in the Old Course of St. Andrews over two days. The Americans are leading GB&I 39-9-1 in the overall tally after winning seven of nine matches played at the Home of Golf, Scotland.
After entering the final day with a 7 1/2-4 1/2 deficit, Team USA won three of the Sunday Foursomes matches, and then went 6 2-2 in the afternoon singles to win the Cup and flip the match by three, 14 1/2-11 1/2.

The longest winning streak for Team USA dates back to 1989 when GB&I ended an eight-match losing streak at Peachtree golf Club in Atlanta. The U.S. won the first nine matches of the 1922-1936 period, and also 12 consecutive matches between 1947-1969.
In 2025, the event will return to Pebble Beach in California, before moving on to Ireland in 2026, at Lahinch Golf Club, County Clare. Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, Oakmont Country Club and Chicago Golf Club are among the venues that have been announced for future events.
